Cubamistad statement in solidarity with Cuba’s sovereignty

Cuba has been subject to a blockade lasting nearly 65 years. Enforcement has ebbed & flowed depending on which U.S. president is in power. In his first term, Trump instituted the State Sponsor of Terrorism (SSOT) designation, an illegal unilateral sanction. The SSOT continued under Biden and is still in place. It has imposed all too familiar suffering on the Cuban populace.

Cubamistad is demanding an end to the economic attacks on Cuba by taking the following actions: remove Cuba from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list; end the blockade; end the occupation of Guantánamo; and respect Cuba’s sovereignty.

Cubamistad condemns the recent escalation in the 25 years of regime change operations by the US government against the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela. We condemn the US targeted bombing raid, that is so called “Operation Absolute Resolve”, and the illegal abduction of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. Cubamistad endorses the Let Cuba Play campaign

A new campaign by the Los Angeles-based U.S. Hands Off Cuba Committee is demanding that Cubans be allowed to compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

The U.S. Embassy in Havana, under Marco Rubio’s State Department, has refused to issue visas for numerous Cuban athletes and coaches, which has stopped them from competing in pre-Olympic qualifying events.
